So, Apple made its first keynote of the decade yesterday with a whole new “?” market. “Is there a potential market in between smartphones and notebooks?” Well, obviously Apple claims that there is one or else this whole iPad idea is just a waste of time and complete BS. With the big hype that Apple always create when it launches a product and how it captures the entire world, I think Apple has its point when Steve Jobs thinks there is a market between smartphones and notebooks. (Even if you think the iPad is a dumb idea or no one will like/need it.)

After watching the entire Keynote that Steve Jobs presented on the iPad and listening/surfing through many comments about the iPad, I’d like to make a little comment from my point of view. I’m not sure if you all remember when the iPod came out a few years ago, it was revolutionary. It changed the experience of music-on-the-go and shaping its own culture and lifestyle. (Though, I do not own a iPod of any sort myself. The revolutionary experience was so strong, it could be felt from surrounding.) Today, Apple is taking a bigger step (as some say, they’re making a bigger iPod touch) but to me, they are not in the revolutionary stage anymore. They have captured its market, they have captured its audience, they have created the hype (once again), but this time, they are taking a bigger risk and re-inventing or the better word might be re-looking at the experience of what “we” do most on our smartphone and notebook these days. Apple is really rolling the dice this time because we can already do the things we normally do on a smartphone or a notebook. Why do we even need something in between when we got both? Well, as Jobs says…it’s all about the “EXPERIENCE”. And he’s right, you will not know until you’ve actually held one of these iPad in your hands.

So, for those are still confused as to if this is a tablet or an e-book reader? Well, I think it’s still in the blue right now. I don’t think there is a concrete answer as to where this iPad is placed. It might change the world or it might be another tablet that is just passing by. I guess we shall just wait and see!!

I cannot believe how time has flown by in the past year (2009). It feels like I’m still living in 2009, but reality is I’m already in the 24th day into 2010. So, let’s get on with it. It’s almost been 3 months since my last update. I think it’s by far the loooooongest I have left my blog unattended for this long. No, I have not forgotten about it. No, I was not too tooo busy to update. Mmm…let’s just say, I was “enjoying life” outside my blog-o-sphere. I can say…it was like taking a breather, away from my blog. But, here I am, back in the game!!! Let’s rewind back to 2009 for a bit before I rant about the future.

2009

The year of 2009 for me was almost like a flash of lightning. Exactly, what it was. It has gone by so fast that I don’t even see what has happened this past year. From moving to a new place, settling in. Then, getting a job. And moving away from “home” again, and living in cold, boring Waterloo for the remaining of the year. Then, coming “home” again. It seems like what I call “home” is becoming so foreign to me. Is it just a shelter? The people you live with? Family? Friends? I won’t comment on it, I’ll just leave it for you to decide. Well, besides this identity-crisis with “home”, I have also realized the other major part of my life is “school”. I have started my undergrad in Business Administration in late 2005, which means…I am beginning my 5th years of study!! I think this is absolutely ridiculous or as my friends say “RI-DONK-ULOUS”. Why am I still in school? Why have I not graduated yet? It almost seems like I am “left behind” with most of friends that have entered the same years as me…almost graduating or rather graduated w/ careers in whatever they persue, and here I am still in school. And what’s worse…I don’t think I see the light at the end of the tunnel. With my brother entering sophomore and my parents nagging me “Are you graduating yet? When are you graduating?”…and with the same answer I give every time “I will let you know, when I CAN graduate!” It’s almost like a crisis mission to graduate out of that prison “QUADRANGLE@SFU”.

Hmm…seems like a lot of crisis going on in the past year. But, on the brighter side…I’ve met some pretty interesting people in the last few months of 2009. Meet my housemates:

These aren’t probably the coolest people in town (well, depending on which town). But, definitely are one of the coolest housemates. One is obsessed with Hello Kitty (as you can see), and the other poops all day!! Actually, that is not entirely true. They are the same person. And last but not least, my best buddy @anothersamchan.com. Anyhow, it was great living w/ these folks for four months. One advice if you get to pick your roommates, pick one that washes all your dishes, cleans the house, and one that entertains you ALL THE TIME! It’ll make your life, much happier!

2010

So…finally! What’s going on this year? I think this year is going to be an interesting year with a lot of changes and adjustments in my life and those people in my life. One change I can tell you already is…”TEA IS BETTER THAN COFFEE”…in every way. I was so addicted to coffee last year, but for some odd reason I just grew into my like for tea and stopped drinking caffeine. Instead, I like to start my morning with a sip of tea. I guess one would like different things at different times in life. Just like how I would refuse to use a Mac 2 years ago and now…what am I typing on? Here’s one conclusion for 2010, CHANGES ARE ALWAYS GOOD AS LONG AS YOU ARE WILLING TO CHANGE. Here’s my challenge to you this year, what do you need to change in your life RIGHT NOW that you might be holding back? If you changed something in your life, drop me a line. I would love to know what has changed.

Let’s keep 2010 nice and short. More to come…

Cheers to a great start to a great year. Happy Belated New Year..peace.

Finally, the long awaited review of the Logitech VX Nano. I got this mouse at my nearest BestBuy location for $95. For a $95 mouse, I could have said it was totally not worth the money. Not only was it not ergonomically shaped, it was way too flat for a mediocre palm. It almost felt like I had a cramp every time I finished using the mouse. For a $95 mouse, let’s just say I had much more expectations than this! I originally bought the mouse to use with my MacBook, but more over I bought it to brush up on some StarCraft. This was definately not the mouse to game in. The laser was not very sensitive on the table that I was using. I had to put it on a mouse pad in order to for a much better experience. The back/forward button was also very badly placed. It was almost impossible to touch those buttons (placed on the top-left corner of the mouse).

However, the scrolling on this mouse is incredible. It has an incredible micro-gear that can scroll hundreds of pages in a matter of seconds. It’s one great feature to have if you are doing a paper or scrolling through a long body of text. This mouse takes two AAA batteries, so it is very light weight. And has one incredible “NANO” sized USB-receiver. It is the smallest USB-receiver ever. I plugged it into my MacBook and left it there for 2 weeks without ever pulling it out. It was just like how it advertised “plug and forget”. It is so small that it will not bother you and you will not know it was there.

So, is this mouse worth getting?

Yes, if you are a light traveler. And you are always on the go and want a light travel companion. I would say this is a good mouse for a short-time use.

No, if you are a gamer and if you are looking for a mouse to operate longer than 4 hours a day. This mouse will definitely be a pain killer for you. However, if you are looking for a small mouse like the VX Nano. I would recommend trying the Logitech VX Revolution, it is a much ergonomic mouse with more features and a cheaper price tag.

Thank you for visiting “Robinleung.com”. This is again the Logitech VX Nano. Retailed from $65-100.
Stay tune for Logitech VX Revolution review next week.

I can’t believe it’s been two weeks that I’ve survived in this small town called “Waterloo”. For those who don’t know where it is, well…it’s right about HERE. If there is one word I can describe this TOWN, it would probably be “GHETTO”. For some reason, I don’t really have an acquaintance with this TOWN, whatsoever. There’s flies everywhere. There’s students everywhere. And there’s absolutely nothing exciting to do after work & the weekends. So, this is how it is like living in Waterloo.

WORK:

For those who still can’t figure out why I’m in Waterloo, well…it’s pretty obvious. Either I am going to switch over to University of Waterloo in my last year OR I’ll be working in one of the 24 buildings RIM has over here. You’ve heard it, 24 buildings and 4 more in progress. I’ve probably got this a lot..but what am I doing here? Well, I’m on the LEARNING INFRASTRUCTURE team. And what is that exactly? Well, it’s part of Customer Support Operations. And we take care of all the pplz inside and outside of RIM that wants to have Blackberry related training. And as for my job? Hmm..it’s hard to say!! Let’s just say I am the support for my team!!

OUTSIDE OF WORK:

So, besides work…I do have a life. And as for life…there isn’t really much here! It’s pretty much routine. Nap, Eat, Play, Sleep. And as for most part, I do find myself hanging around at my friend “SAM” place alot. And while I’m here, I guess get most of my entertainment HERE.

But besides that … yeah, I pretty much have no life.

Well, to stay up to date on what’s new. You can subscribe to “ROBINLEUNG.COM“.

It’s been awhile since I’ve last updated. Yes, I am busy. And I am still going to be busy. And it was definitely a busy summer. Despite all, it’s finally rolling into Fall and Summer will be behind us all before we even know it. For some reason, August seems to be an interesting month for me. How so? I always get a job or quit a job in August. It’s always job related. Besides the job, August always seems to be the “Summer Lovin’” month for me. My emo sensitivity just boosts in the month of August. No wonder August always keeps me busy.

As September rolls in, it marks a whole new beginning. I think being in school for so many years, we all get excited for the new semester (as a whole new beginning starts). There’s something about September that just tells you, it’s a BRAND NEW start. Doesn’t matter what happened last year, but starting in the Fall…it’s a whole new beginning! For me…September isn’t so “a whole new beginning”…more like it’s going to get dark and depressing. Maybe because I live in Vancouver (the rainy months are about to start). Maybe, that’s why I decided to go away now every year.

So, where am I heading this Fall? WATERLOO, ONTARIO, CANADA. Mhmm…Waterloo (aka “The Loo”). From what I’ve heard about Waterloo, it’s just not the most fun city in the world. In fact, it’s probably one of the most boring cities on EARTH! So, why am I going there then? Well, mostly because I got hired by a company called “RESEARCH IN MOTION”, what are they (you may ask), mm…they make the most remarkable smartphones and the number.uno smartphone in the world “BLACKBERRY”. OHHHH!!! (You may say!) So, how is Waterloo better than Vancouver? ANS: It’s not! Or at least I don’t think it is. I wonder what these few months will be like living there?

It’s my 2nd time leaving home by myself, and the FEELING…well, it’s quite exciting I must say. But, yet adventurous. I didn’t even realize I love traveling this much. If it was actually my full-time job…I would be so pleased!!! I’ll probably won’t even need another job in this lifetime. What’s better than to get paid to visit the ends of the Earth?!!? But, there is one bad thing when traveling…YOU GOTTA PACK!!! I hate packing. I wish there was a robot that would just automatically pack for me. (And unpack…while it’s at it.) But, thanks to my personal secretary…she generated a “Packing List” for me. Hmm…I wonder if I will still forget anything?! That’s right, to all GUYS out there, if you are not good at packing (like me)…get a packing list from a girl!! Then you’ll be SET! But, I guess it’ll depend on the girl too. =P

Alright, that’s all for now. Still have some last minute packing.
Peace out!

And to my surprise, well…it wasn’t a big surprise. Typical chinese plaec with some touch of higher class, but overall atmosphere is above average. The washrooms were pretty neat, REMEMBER NEAT, NOT COOL. The door was made of clear glass!! I’d thought it was a mirror when I walked close up, but when I opened the door…it was actually the same GUY I thought that was a reflection. There’s more!! The urinals each have a non-clear glass door to it. (The same as you would go into a toilet stall.) Quite the experience.

Food was overall average. And service overall was average. On a busy day like Saturday afternoon, don’t expect too much of a quality service, if you’re the picky one like me! Prices overall was average. (With a party of 3, our bill came to around $30 with the below food order…)

Here’s the menu…

I realized something this week. That is…everyone that I grew UP with has actually grown UP! I try to remember when the time I first met these people. And I can’t believe that it goes all the way back when I was just a kid. The most interesting thing is we’re still friends now. Especially when growing UP, people of different walks just comes and goes. But, it’s funny the ones that remains is the ones that are closest to you throughout all this time.

This last past year has sure been a change for me. First, going aboard and leaving home for the first time was definately a challenging and yet exciting experience. Then the latter of this year, my best friend went away. Now, another…then another. It’s sad seeing people leave your home, but again…it’s part of growing UP. Does growing UP mean leaving home? Does growing UP mean meeting new people in your walks of life? Does growing UP mean re-connecting with those you haven’t talked to for ages? Does growing UP have a greater meaning?

Lastly, I want to wrap things up by dedicating this blog post to all my friends. You are my greatest encouragement. You are my happy times. You are my help in times of need. You are my photographers. You are my one when I have no one to eat dinner with, so I don’t have to eat alone. You are my role models. You are my one that tells me I am doing something wrong. You are my gang. You are my tweeps. You are my EVERYTHING…You are my friends!

And lastly, sharing with you a song that I’ve been listening to lately. Enjoy. (Sorry, it’s chinese.)

I think this deserves a post. So, the story went like this…my friends and I went to kits beach in the afternoon. The weather was REALLY nice. There was a good breeze along the shore. Then went to my friend’s house in Kitsilano…hung out there till 6ish. Finally, started heading out to meet the other half of the group. That’s when the weather decided to change. It started out with a few drops…then BANG! It poured like there was no tomorrow. So, of course we didn’t end up going. In return, we’ve got a really nice sunset. It was MAGNIFICIENT. (Couldn’t catch the lightning, it was too fast.)

Picture Taken by: Robin Leung

EDIT: For those who missed the fireworks like myself, “thedarkerside” decided to stream it!! Thanks so much for streaming for those who weren’t there because of the wetness! I watched it, even though quality was not in HD. It was pretty gd. South Africa ROCKS!!! The overall performance was eye-catching!!

Visit: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/1871946
(hint: since video was live streamed, the fireworks didn’t start till mid of video. FF to middle.)

Get a load of the LIGHTNING on VIDEO!! CLICK HERE!
